The Jennifer Curtis Byler Scholarship Fund for the Study of Public Affairs

NSSGA created the Jennifer Curtis Byler Scholarship Fund for the Study of Public Affairs to memorialize the life and accomplishments of a sand and gravel producer’s family member who had an intense interest in the political process. Income from the fund is used to provide an annual scholarship to be awarded to the child of an aggregates industry employee who wishes to pursue collegiate studies in public affairs. Jennifer, a mother of four children, was a National Republican Committeewoman for Virginia, an appointed member of the Virginia Board of Education and a consultant and fundraiser to both candidate and issue campaigns. The scholarship is funded by contributions from companies and individuals. The fund exists within the Aggregates Foundation for Technology, Research and Education.

Scholarship Eligibility. Graduating high school seniors or students already enrolled in a public affairs major in college who are sons or daughters of an aggregates company employee may apply for the scholarship.

Judging Committee. Scholarship applications will be reviewed and judged by a panel including the current NSSGA chairmen of the Government Affairs and Communications & Community Relations Divisions, a representative of the industry trade press and a senior NSSGA staff member.

Application Deadline and Award Presentation. The award application process will be an Internet-based process. Starting June 1, 2010 applicants will be able to apply via NSSGA’s on-line application process, which will be located here on our Careers and Scholarships Homepage by clicking on the icon which states “Apply Here”. The deadline for applications is August 31, 2010. The winning applicant will be named by Sept. 30, 2010.

Applications are currently not being accepted.
Call for applications will begin in June 1, 2010.
