| NSSGA is the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association. On Feb. 12, 2001, the merged National Stone Association and National Aggregates Association became the NSSGA. The association represents the crushed stone, sand and gravel-or aggregates-industries. Our member companies produce more than 92 percent of the crushed stone and 75 percent of the sand and gravel consumed annually in the United States. More than three billion tons of aggregates (or 2.56 billion metric tons) were produced in 2007 at a value of approximately $21.5 billion, contributing nearly $40 billion to the GDP of the United States. The aggregates industry workforce is made up of about 118,000 men and women. Every $1 million in aggregate sales creates 19.5 jobs, and every dollar of industry output returns $1.58 to the economy. more... |

$8 Billion Highway Trust Fund Solvency Fix Hits Wall
The House of Representatives passed legislation (H.R. 6327) on June 24 that provides a three-month extension of taxes and spending authority for Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) programs, but dropped from the bill a provision that would have provided an $8 billion fix to restore solvency to the Highway Trust Fund's (HTF). The $8 billion in revenue is needed to ensure that there will not be a 34% or higher reduction in highway funds to states below SAFETEA-LU's authorized funding levels in FY 2009 and a loss of 380,000 jobs....details

The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association is fully supporting the Americans for
Transportation Mobility coalition’s FasterBetterSafer campaign being launched today with a press conference in Washington, D.C., and is asking its members to join by directing them to the new Web site, www.fasterbettersafer.org.
“The foundation of America’s economy depends on an integrated transportation network to move goods and people safely and cost-effectively,” said NSSGA President and CEO Jennifer Joy Wilson. “This campaign ties investment in that infrastructure to America’s economic strength and our very quality of life.”...details
NSSGA Launches AGG 1 Web Site - 33% of Exhibit Space Already Sold
The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association, in partnership with the Association of Equipment Manufacturers, has launched a Web site (www.agg1.org) for "AGG 1"— the all-encompassing educational and training event with an aggregates-oriented exposition to address and promote the interests of the industry in 2009. This single, industry-wide event, officially called "AGG 1 Aggregates Forum & Expo," is set for the week of March 8, 2009, in Orlando....details

NSSGA is pleased to offer our members several new items from NSSGA that help strengthen our industry’s contribution and commitment to the communities in which we operate.
NSSGA’s Guiding Principles for Sustainability, approved by our Board of Directors in July of 2007, sets the vision for our industry through our commitment to our communities, to environmental stewardship, to social responsibility and to economic prosperity.
The following tools can be ordered via this link for your company’s use in neighborhoods, for luncheon addresses at the local Chamber or Rotary, in your open houses, within your workforce, for helping introduce your company and the industry to local and state government officials, with customer groups, local media and with area schools:

Community Relations Handbook for the Aggregates Industry
Members of NSSGA have a good story to tell the American people about the aggregates industry.
