AGG1 Academy 2025: A Look Ahead
By Catherine Whalen, NSSGA
The 2025 AGG1 Academy & Expo, March 25-27 in St. Louis, promises to deliver an expanded educational program, reflecting the aggregates industry’s evolving needs. This year’s curriculum focuses more on classes in the Business and People Management track, leadership skills and cutting-edge technologies while continuing to offer foundational technical training.
Shifting Priorities in Education
A key addition this year is the increased emphasis on business and leadership sessions. According to Leland Meiser, chair of NSSGA’s Meetings & Events Committee and president of Dolese Bros. Co., the change is a response to industry needs.
"We’ve seen a significant interest in classes focusing on leadership and soft skills, especially as companies navigate workforce changes," said Meiser.
Traditionally, AGG1 has focused on technical sessions, such as plant and equipment operations. However, as companies face new challenges in managing their teams, leadership development, team-building strategies and conflict resolution have become critical. The 2025 AGG1 Academy will feature more of those sessions, responding to the increased complexity of workforce management within the industry.
Developing the Program
The NSSGA’s Meetings & Events Committee reviewed nearly 100 session proposals to develop a well-rounded program.
"Our goal was to create a balanced offering," Meiser noted.
The committee worked hard to ensure the right proportions of sessions across the four topic tracks, focusing on classes that scored highly in the review process and addressing the industry’s most pressing needs. Additionally, the committee made sure a wide range of companies had the opportunity to present their topics, ensuring diversity in the program’s content.
Technology Integration: A Key Highlight
Another exciting development for 2025 is the increased focus on integrating new technologies into quarry operations. This year’s AGG1 Academy will feature more sessions on autonomous equipment, the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI). These innovations are transforming the aggregates industry, enhancing efficiency, safety and decision-making.
Attendees will explore how autonomous equipment can reduce labor risks and improve efficiency. IoT technologies will be discussed in terms of their ability to provide real-time monitoring and data analysis, enhancing operational insights. AI will also be a major focus, particularly in applications like predictive maintenance, project management and optimization of production processes.
These technology-driven sessions are designed to help companies stay competitive and future-ready by adopting advanced tools to streamline operations and drive productivity.
Continuing the Popular 101-Level Classes
While the AGG1 Academy is evolving, it remains committed to offering its well-regarded 101-level courses. These foundational classes are designed to help new hires and early-career professionals build their technical knowledge, ensuring they have the necessary skills to succeed in the aggregates industry.
"Companies are always looking to skill up their teams, especially new hires," Meiser explained. "The 101-level courses are vital for ensuring workers have the basic knowledge to contribute effectively."
These introductory sessions cover important topics like operational processes, equipment safety and regulatory compliance, offering companies a reliable way to train new employees.
A Must-Attend Event for Industry Professionals
As the industry continues to change, the AGG1 Academy & Expo remains an essential event for professional development. The 2025 Academy blends leadership and business-focused sessions with the technical and foundational training the event is known for. By emphasizing the growing role of technology in the industry, the Academy ensures that attendees can stay ahead of the curve and implement innovative solutions within their operations.
Whether attendees want to develop leadership skills, explore the latest advancements in autonomous equipment and AI, or train new hires, AGG1 2025 will offer practical solutions to help them thrive in today’s rapidly changing landscape. Visit www.agg1.org to view the complete program.
