NSSGA Applauds MSHA Release of COVID-19 Guidance

ALEXANDRIA, VA – The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs Michele Stanley issued the following statement commending the Mine Safety & Health Administration’s (MSHA) new COVID-19 guidance.  This detailed guidance, tailored to the mining industry, supports operators by helping them identify and mitigate risks of being exposed to COVID-19.

“We are pleased MSHA has put together clear guidance for the industry. It will help keep miners safe and provide operators with additional, valuable resources to put together effective COVID-19 prevention programs.

“MSHA’s guidance champions safety and health; promotes engagement and education; and provides effective plans for individual sites – regardless of mine size. We are grateful to MSHA for their thorough, flexible and clear direction that will enhance safety and health at aggregates operations and across the mining industry.”

NSSGA is the leading advocate for the aggregates industry. Its members – stone, sand and gravel producers and the equipment manufacturers and service providers who support them – produce the essential raw materials found in homes, buildings, roads, bridges and public works projects, NSSGA represents more than 90 percent of the crushed stone and 70 percent of the sand and gravel produced annually in the United States.
