Ward Nye Receives 2025 Barry K. Wendt Memorial Commitment Award

ST. LOUIS – The 2025 Barry K. Wendt Memorial Commitment Award was presented to Martin Marietta Chair, President and CEO Ward Nye during the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association's (NSSGA) Annual Membership Meeting.

In his final duty as the 2024 Manufacturers & Services Division Chair, Mark Krause, McLanahan/Eagle Iron Works, presented the award to Nye. NSSGA’s Manufacturers & Services Division established the award in 1998 to annually recognize an industry professional who exhibits the dedication exemplified by Barry Wendt, both in commitment to the industry and the community in which they live. This award is the most distinguished individual award presented by NSSGA.

“Ward is well known and deeply admired throughout the entire industry for both his dedication and passion for his work in leading Martin Marietta and his community,” said Krause. “I am proud to announce him as the 2025 winner of the Barry K. Wendt Memorial Commitment Award.”

Nye’s career in construction materials spans more than 35 years. He has served as Martin Marietta’s chair of the board since 2014, CEO since 2010 and president since 2006. He served as 2017 NSSGA chair of the board and now sits on the NSSGA Executive Committee. In 2019, Forbes magazine recognized him as one of America’s Most Innovative Leaders; he was previously recognized by both Aggregates Manager and Pit & Quarry magazines, as Aggman of the Year and a Hall of Fame inductee, respectively.

“Barry Wendt’s legacy of dedication and commitment to both the industry and his community is a beacon for all of us,” said Nye. “It is a privilege to be associated with his name through this award.”
