NSA and NAA Merge

The boards of the National Stone Association (NSA) and National Aggregates Association (NAA) merge, forming the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA). STONEPAC becomes ROCKPAC.

Merger Leadership

NSA Chairman Kim Snyder and NAA Chairman Mike Hayes lead the organizations through the merger process.

New NSSGA Leadership

NSA’s Joy Wilson Pinniger is named the first president & CEO and NAA’s Charlie Hawkins is named the first COO.

First Annual Convention

NSSGA’s first Annual Convention is held in San Diego, CA.

Merger Steering Committee Honored

Industry Survey Published

NSSGA and Rock Products publish a survey on critical trends in the aggregates industry. The number one challenge producers say they face is fines management.

SAFETEA-LU Becomes Law

The Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) is signed into law by President Bush, a significant advocacy win for the aggregates industry.

NSSGA Chair: Don James, Vulcan Materials Company

Inaugural Environmental Leadership Award

The first Environmental Leadership Award is awarded to Frank Mendola of Cemex. The award recognizes extraordinary contributions to the industry's environmental responsiveness.

The aggregates industry produces over two billion metric tons of material and contributes $40 billion to the U.S. GDP.

The Paul Mellott, Jr. Award for Political Excellence is established and awarded to Paul Mellott, Jr., the first and longtime chair of ROCKPAC. This award recognizes an industry leader who promotes ROCKPAC and political advocacy. 

Sterling Safety Awards Renamed to Honor Louis Griesemer

The Sterling Safety Award is renamed to the Louis Griesemer Sterling Safety Award to honor Louis Griesemer. This award recognizes NSSGA member companies with the lowest total accident incidence rate for the previous year.

NSSGA begins its annual campaign celebrating “ROCKtober” to showcase the industry’s positive impact to our nation.

CONEXPO/CON-AGG concludes early as society began to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

NSSGA Enhances Member Communications

Member communications are tailored to specific interests and audiences.

Aggregates Industry Deemed Essential

NSSGA successfully advocated for the aggregates industry to be listed as essential by the Department of Homeland Security, allowing member company operations to continue work during pandemic lockdown conditions.

2021

NSSGA Chair: Darin Matson, Rogers Group Inc.

Darin Matson becomes the first NSSGA chairman to serve a two-year term.

ROCKS Act Introduced

The Rebuilding Our Communities by Keeping Aggregates Sustainable Act (ROCKS Act) is introduced in Congress. The bill is later incorporated into the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).

Redesigned Website and Safety Shorts Podcast Launches

NSSGA launches a redesigned website and publishes the first episode of the Safety Shorts podcast.

IIJA Becomes Law

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) is signed into law by President Biden. This is the largest infrastructure bill in our nation’s history, and NSSGA was on hand to witness this historic achievement.

2022

NSSGA Chair: Karen Hubacz, Bond Construction

Karen Hubacz Serves as First Female Board Chair

Karen Hubacz becomes the first woman to chair NSSGA.

Young Leaders 30th Anniversary

NSSGA celebrates the 30th anniversary of Young Leaders, founded in 1992.

IRA Becomes Law

Congress passes the Inflation Reduction Act, and it’s signed into law by President Biden. This bill focuses on tax, healthcare and climate issues while including the goal to reduce carbon emissions by roughly 40 percent by 2030.

2023

NSSGA Chair: Seth Hankowski, All States Materials

Sackett v. EPA Decision

The Supreme Court releases the Sackett v. EPA decision. The court struck down EPA’s efforts to expand its authority; calling the significant nexus test “particularly implausible” and held that EPA has “no statutory basis to impose it.”

2024

NSSGA Chair: Jim Nickolas, Martin Marietta

NSSGA Receives EPA Grant for Environmental Product Declarations

NSSGA receives a $9.65 million grant from the EPA. NSSGA will help the aggregates industry produce Environmental Product Declarations, set guidelines for CO2 emission reduction and boost CO2 sequestration capacity.

AGG1 and WOA Set Attendance Records

AGG1 Aggregates Academy & Expo and World of Asphalt set records for attendance and square footage. The three-day event in Nashville attracts more than 15,800 participants, a 38% increase from 2022.

Congressional Aggregates Caucus Created

Rep. Nick Langworthy (NY) and Rep. Salud Carbajal (CA) establish the Congressional Aggregates Caucus to serve as an informal, bipartisan group to discuss industry challenges and policies affecting aggregates producers.

NSSGA Membership Grows

NSSGA surpasses 500 total member companies.
