Letter to House Leadership on REINS Act
On behalf of the 450 members of the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA), we write to share our support of H.R. 277, the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act. Equipping Congress with the authority to examine major rules will help prevent erroneous, overextending regulations from being enacted by federal agencies, leading to more efficient production, lower regulatory costs and coherent implementation measures. NSSGA represents the aggregates and industrial sand industry of our country, with over 9,000 facilities and more than 100,000 employees in high-paying jobs. Constantly changing and far reaching federal regulations make it extremely complicated for our members to source and supply needed construction materials. Recent regulatory actions from a host of agencies have led to higher construction cost and more difficult permitting conditions for the aggregates industry. The REINS Act will bring needed scrutiny to bureaucratic actions, providing a more effective and reliant regulatory process allowing our industry to continue to rebuild our nation’s aging infrastructure, through lowered costs, more jobs and helpful permitting reform
