WASHINGTON – The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) is hosting its Legislative & Policy Forum (LPF) in Washington D.C. Sept. 26-29 in a hybrid event format. NSSGA members are conducting over 100 meetings with members of Congress and their staffs today to advocate for the priorities of the aggregates industry: chief among those is a final push for infrastructure investment. This LPF and Hill Day timing coincide as the same week as the scheduled House vote on the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). 

“Our members are here in Washington in such strong numbers to make infrastructure investment a reality,” said NSSGA Board Chair and Rogers Group Inc. President and CEO Darin Matson.  “NSSGA and our members have made the case for infrastructure for years to see this become a reality, and we want to be sure Congress knows we must pass infrastructure investment now.”

On Monday, NSSGA announced its Awards of Excellence winners in Community Relations, Environment and Safety, as well as the Lifetime Achievement Award, which was presented to the Suzio family in honor of Cheryl Suzio by Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT). Other highlighted speakers included Congressman Jason Smith (R-MO) who gave an overview of the reconciliation process, Jeannette Galanis, MSHA’s new Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy, and Anna Palmer of Punchbowl News.

“There is no better and more crucial time than this week for members of our industry to be in town for our Legislative & Policy Forum to reinforce the need to pass infrastructure investment and push for our priorities in Congress,” said NSSGA President & CEO Michael Johnson. “With these unique times, we appreciate everyone who is able to be with us in Washington for this significant week for our industry.”

Today, NSSGA members will conduct their meeting with members of Congress, asking Congress to pass the IIJA by sharing their personal story of working in the aggregates industry. Attendees will also get to hear firsthand from Rep. Cathy McMorris Rogers (R-WA) and Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ).
