In this webinar, we will continue our discussions on medical surveillance in the workplace, focusing on legal and privacy issues that may arise. Some of the questions we will address include: What is the role of medical surveillance in job or jobsite assignment? Can participation in medical surveillance be a condition of employment? Could the release of the results to the employer also be a condition of employment? Could employers execute pre-employment medical surveillance or assignment before a worker is placed into a jobsite?

Miners are on the front line of the nation's opioid crisis. More than six in 10 injured workers receive an opioid prescription, and extraction workers - including stone, sand and gravel workers - have the highest rate of opioid overdose death. The University of Massachusetts Lowell's Center for the Promotion of Health in the New England Workplace created a free opioid awareness training program tailored to the stone, sand, and gravel industry and MSHA Part 46 annual refresher training.
